Jojoba Oil ( Simmondsia chinensis )
Jojoba oil closely resembles the sebum of the skin, and is rich in vitamin E. This promotes a glowing complexion. It makes a great scalp cleanser for the hair, and is equally wonderful for the skin because it has absorption properties that are similar to our skins own sebum. For use with acne, it is theorized that applying jojoba to the skin can trick the skin into thinking it is producing enough oil, thus balancing oil production. Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic. Technically a wax, this beautiful golden colored oil that is hydrating and not a "slick" feelingoil. Hypo-allergic and very good for children's products. It is reported to be anti-bacterial andanti-inflammatory. Jojoba oil is cold pressed from the nuts of the Jojoba tree. The Jojoba treeis cultivated in California, Arizona, Mexico and Israel. It resembles human sebum; the nutritive coating our body produces to protect the skin and keeps it supple.
Sea Buckthorn Oil (Hippophae rhamnoides)
Sea Buckthorn is a hardy, cold-climate plant originating from the mountains of China and Russia. The seed's oil is rich in vitamin E, K, carotenoids and sterols, a substance that aids in cell function. Sea Buckthorn has been called the superfruit. This fruit has a high abundance of some of the most powerful antioxidants in the world. Not only that, but it is the only plant known to contain essential fatty acids 3, 6, 7, and 9.
Licorice Root Extract ( Glycyrrhiza glabra )
The licorice plant is a perennial herb and a member of the pea family. Native to southern Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean, it is extensively cultivated in Russia, Spain, and India. The plant is prized for its roots, which contain glycyrrhizic acid. This acid, which is extracted from the roots, is fifty times sweeter than sugar. Produced from the roots and rhizomes the extract has a long history of use as an anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory and is often used in Traditional Chinese medicine as an herbal healing agent. Licorice root extract is a nutritive anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory ingredient. Licorice root is also another herb that is helpful with hair loss and further damage to the hair.
Sarsaparilla Root Extract ( Smilax root )
Sarsaparilla is a nutritive herb that has been used for liver disease and syphilis. However, it is most commonly used in connection with eczema, psoriasis, and other skin disorders. Studies have showed it to be diuretic, cleansing and anti-inflammatory. Chemicals in sarsaparilla might help decrease joint pain and itching, and might also reduce bacteria. Some supplement makers claim that chemicals (sterols) in sarsaparilla can be converted to anabolic steroids like testosterone. But this is a false claim. The sterols contained in sarsaparilla are not anabolic steroids nor are they converted in the body to anabolic steroids. Testosterone has never been detected in any plant, including sarsaparilla.
Hazelnut Oil ( Corylus avellana )
An oil for oily skin! It is light weight and easily absorbed into the skin. This is the only fixed nut oil with an astringent quality, making it beneficial for use on oily skin. It absorbs quickly and is useful as a base for oily or acne-prone skins.
