Alopecia Areata, Bald spot or Pattern baldness?

Alopecia areata is a condition in which hair is lost usually from the scalp and causes bald spots. Alopecia is sometimes called spot baldness.

This usually involves one or more round spots on the scalp.

An estimated 4 million Americans are affected with Bald spots or Alopecia areata. Both Women and Men are equally affected.

With Alopecia areata, it is believed that your antibodies mistakenly attack your own hair follicles. Your hair follicles are damaged, causing a decrease in hair production, and thus resulting to alopecia or hair loss.

Early stages of male and female pattern baldness may look similar to the bald spots created by Alopecia.
